Dreaming stars and my bed drops away.
Blackness bleeds and burns blue -
beautiful.
Bewitched, I lift lead hands to catch the sky;
it slips away.
Sable sweep of light scald fireworks
On the crimson canvas of my eyes.
Broken, sleep creeps clumsily
And sinks me down
down.
World rouses - soft, slow.
I drown and drowse,
blurring the bright beams to nothing.
Restless, nothing fills me but
The mindless love of midnight.
- time to wake.
I took a Creative Writing class during my senior year of college and wrote some (very amateur) poetry. I've been having trouble sleeping lately for reasons beyond my understanding, so it seemed like a good time to give this a little polish and share. Also, to give credit where credit is due, this was originally inspired by the Sylvia Plath poem "Mad Girl's Love Song".
